Expanding the Loop: Announcing Codex Support via the AgentRQ Codex Gateway

At AgentRQ, our mission is to build the ultimate human-in-the-loop control plane for AI agents. We started with native integration for Claude Code and expanded to Gemini CLI via the ACP Gateway. Today, we're taking another massive leap forward in standardizing agent collaboration.

We are thrilled to announce the AgentRQ Codex Gateway, an open-source bridge designed to seamlessly connect the OpenAI Codex ecosystem to your AgentRQ workspaces.

Why Codex?

The OpenAI Codex ecosystem represents one of the most powerful and widely used families of coding models available today. As more developers use Codex-powered tools and custom agents to automate complex workflows, the need for robust oversight and remote collaboration has grown exponentially.

With the new Codex Gateway, your Codex agents are no longer confined to running silently in the background on your local machine. They can now actively collaborate with you, surfacing critical decision points, asking for permission, and receiving remote task assignments through the AgentRQ platform.

How the Codex Gateway Works

Similar to our ACP Gateway, the Codex Gateway acts as a specialized translator and proxy.

  1. Task Notifications: The gateway connects to your AgentRQ workspace via the Model Context Protocol (MCP) and listens for new tasks. When you assign a task from your phone or the web dashboard, the gateway converts it into an actionable prompt for your local Codex agent.
  2. Permission Requests: When your Codex agent needs to execute a sensitive operation (like deleting a file or making a remote API call), the gateway catches the request and proxies it to AgentRQ. You receive a real-time notification to approve or deny the action.
  3. Tool Dispatch: The gateway allows the Codex agent to natively call AgentRQ MCP tools, enabling it to update its status, download attachments, and reply directly to your task threads.

Built on Open Standards

We believe the future of AI tooling must be open and interoperable. That's why the Codex Gateway uses the same foundational standards as the rest of our ecosystem.

By configuring a simple .codex/config.toml for tool approvals and a .mcp.json for task routing, you can bring any Codex-powered agent into your AgentRQ workspace in minutes.

Get Started Today

The Codex Gateway is available now via npm and is completely open-source.

Ready to connect your Codex agent?

The era of isolated, unmonitored AI agents is ending. With AgentRQ, you are always in the loop, no matter which model or agent framework you choose to build with.
